Last year we lost 2 of our own from suicide . One officer killed his children & then himself & the other was a well respected detective . Unfortunately I have seen this time & time again it breaks my heart for someone to feel that desperate that they feel that's the only way out . Being a police officer we are used to being in control we feel weak to have to ask someone for help or worried that we will be judged by our peers . Nationally, twice as many cops - about 300 annually - commit suicide as are killed in the line of duty, according to a study by the National Association of Police Chiefs. Officers children are also at a higher risk to commit suicide.
I want to let every police officer know that they are not alone . You can use this blog to vent get advice or email me directly and we can get professional help for you.
