The Role of Alcohol In Suicide

How alcohol affects your feelings
Alcohol affects how you think and feel. Small amounts of alcohol might make you feel happy, relaxed and self-confident. But drinking too much can make you feel sad, upset or angry.
Or small amounts of alcohol might dull painful feelings. But drinking won’t change the problems behind those feelings. It can even make problems worse
Researchers know that alcohol disorders amplify suicide risk. At least one-third of individuals who committed suicide also met criteria for alcohol abuse or dependence; alcohol-use disorders are a potent risk factor for suicide attempts that are considered medically serious; and up to seven percent of alcoholics die by committing suicide.

Police have one of the highest suicide rates in the nation they are problem drinkers about twice as often as the general population
